When I was taking piano lessons, flash cards for learning and memorizing notes was the optimal tool. But today there are applications available that can really make learning how to read music a little more palatable.

Consider using Note Rush. It takes a little time to understand how it works. After that small learning curve, it is incredibly useful for memorizing and learning notes. I’ve tried a few others, but they focus on learning the letter name of the notes (which is useful). Ultimately, , it is best to know what note (written on the grand staff) coincides with what specific key on the keyboard. That is what Note Rush gives you that a few others I had tried do not.
