Not long after starting this songwriting journey, I felt inspired during my morning meditation to do a song about a fairy walking on water. This is a little of what I imagined.

Taliana stared at the vast silver lake. In the light of the amber dawn, mist wafted up from its placid surface making the crossing seem so much farther than she’d anticipated. She could only guess at what lay beyond the rising tendrils, unable to see the far distant shore. She’d only recently learned to walk on water and had not yet earned her wings. So, she could cross, but she felt hesitant.
This journey was about earning her wings. She had to make her way to the Cave of Secrets and face her worst fear. Only the ancient mirror there could teach her what she most feared and test her against it. If she passed, it would grant her the gift of flight.
Taliana was afraid to sink into the lake. She dipped a toe into the water. It felt cold and deep. She walked along the surface and tried a different spot. It was shallow.
“I’ll start here,” she said aloud to bolster her confidence. Then, she began a tentative water-walk. At first, it felt like she would sink into the murky-purple depths. The water didn’t look so silvery once you were walking on it. Yet, realizing that staring at the surface might take her under, she lifted her head and gazed at her distant goal. The sunrise now revealed a forest-green shoreline in the distance with highlights of golden flecks.
Hope blossomed in her chest, and as it did her water-walk began to feel effortless. She felt her feet find a rhythm and pick up speed. She didn’t feel the effort the speed in her legs hinted at. It was almost like running downhill. She couldn’t help the swiftness. It was like being carried. “Yes, I will make it!” she laughed. It sounded like a tinkling bell to animals in the distant woods. Though quiet, it was piercing. But it left a cheerful peace in their mammalian hearts.
I haven’t yet drawn a picture to go with this song, but it’s on my list. Without further ado, here is “JOURNEY: Walking on Water”.
