I dislike shallow villains. The kind who want to conquer the entire universe, galaxy, or even the world because they are “just bad”. I don’t find them very believable or relatable. When you have a shallow villain, you usually end up with a perfect hero, who has no flaws, as well. Also, not relatable.

My favorite villain and hero are those that have a backstory. The best villains (in my opinion) are a lot like you and me. They want to be good. They are trying to right wrongs they’ve suffered. Yet, they go just a bit too far and get caught up in the power ending up corrupted and a little bit crazy.

These villains, deeply created and tragic, produce the best heroes. They produce imperfect heroes (Unlikely Hero’s Theme) that are unexpected, unlikely, and extremely relatable. Imperfect heroes take up the mantle of Savior, not because they are without flaws, but, because they understand imperfection and want to offer what little they can (which ends up being a heroic amount) to make the world as good as it can be.

Here is a piano soundtrack song for the Tragic Villain and a piece of artwork I did on Procreate.
